K so I know I have a lot to catch up on, but rest assured I will! University and life has kept me busy busy is the evening time (Waterloo sunset’s fine)

I have an Interpol shirt which I love. It turns out that Sonic World Adventure means a lot more to me than I first thought. (A lot) People have come and gone out of my life, but I have made a few new friends which has made me feel very happy! It’s funny how you miss the girly touches, being androgynous for the majority of your life. I have begun collecting soundtracks, memories captured on discs are pretty sweet. Planetary Pieces (Sonic World Adventure) is monumental, I love that game so much. The Mario Galaxy one is very good too. And thanks to someone awesome I have every Pokémon soundtrack <3 I have began collecting Pokedolls/Pokémon Centre plushes. Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver are amazing (so are their soundtracks), I’ve gone through both in Japanese. Fantastic. I love my Typhlosion.

And that’s all I have to say for… 8 months journal absence. I have an odd world in my head, and want to make an encyclopaedia of it.

I recommend reading the Mortal Engines saga.

So I just wanted to get rid of the other journal. Erm, I’m basically not going to make lists anymore because then drawing seems like a chore, and art should never be a chore!

So, updates are going to be erratic. And of random stuff.

Hoorah. Not an update, but a prospect! With update features.

I come to you today ladies and gentlemen with a dream. Well, not really a dream, but a miniature project I’m planning and something to get rid of the essay journal prior to this.

Essentially I’m going to do a series of pictures featuring robots in different environments. This is going to help me (hopefully) with making backgrounds, doing different poses, and using situational lighting. I’ve got my laptop back now and am feeling rusty!! So this’ll help me get back into the swing of things too : )

‘What environments?’, I hear you cry! Well, the answer should be familiar with people once I drawn them, but Sonic environments. Yes indeed. You might not know, but the majority of my OCs are created to music, a lot of it Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic music. So I thought I could take robot and put them in the respective zones that inspired them. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I thought it might be interesting to see them in these areas, as well as the interaction.

I have a lot of ideas lined up, but it’ll be a progressive venture. There’s still lots of other work to be done and submitted. : )

Thought I had best post one of these, seeing as the last one was in… August? Oh dear.
The PC has been giving me hassle, colouring is even harder nowadays. The screen just keeps degenerating… I think it’s a mixture of being sun-bleached by being in a window for some 8 years… That, plus age. This beast is Millenium Edition.

There’s a big bit about a laptop now. Inb4 tl;dr, skip if you wish to skip rant : D

I once had a laptop. My mother stood on it. It’s broken beyond repair. Mother and father say they will call the insurance up to buy me another one. Mother and father also like to talk about things, not actually ever doing them. It’s been over 14 months since it happened. I’m stuck with a graphics tablet and a bleached monitor. It’s like having a yacht and a bloody paddling pool.

Come Christmas time, they keep pitching this idea of a laptop… Not being ungrateful, but if I did accept it would have been for my birthday and Christmas. I’d rather have actual separate presents than something that is technically owed to me (the insurance would have covered it all, and it was originally bought with an education grant anyway). So after much deliberation I just said no, too much money, rather have other stuff yadda yadda yadda.

So it’s well and truly past Christmas now, and I have money from birthday, wages, and Christmas. My sister got a laptop off her boyfriend for Christmas, and so longing sets in from the days when I could actually get a decent colour pallet for Photoshopping. That, plus the days of inspiration. As sad as it probably sounds, my art spirit has dwindled largely due to the lack of my laptop. The incapability of getting correct colours, the lack of privacy! I feel embarrassed writing in front of my family unless it’s for university, plus sitting in wide open view on a horribly uncomfortable chair compared to the comfy confines of my room hardly helps.

I mentioned getting one this week to my dad, buying one myself with my wages. He responds with a statement that he and my mother are getting one this weekend. Nice. You stand on my laptop and you’re the one who gets a new one? I don’t know if it’s just me… Anywho, in response to why I want one, I tell him for drawing, that the monitor of the PC is pretty bad. He says I can have the PC when they get a laptop. So instead of a portable device for uni, I now have a bricky, buggy, bleached machine. Don’t get me wrong, I love the PC. Old Faithful. Nearly 10 years old. But it’s getting to the point that a single click on eBay makes it crash. My webpages are spammed with UPDATE YOU’RE OUT OF DAAAAAATE. There’s only so much you can do with Millenium.

I guess I could save the money and just buy a new monitor. Heaven forbid I bought a laptop and the PC went to waste. To my parents, who can’t even handle a computer…

Bah. This was more just to clear my head, than to be listened to.

---Rant end.

So yeah. Back to art talk! Been submitting rather erratically. There’s a plethora of sketches to be scanned in Gary’s (scanner isn’t compatible with my wonderful PC), which I keep forgetting to do. There’s some writing I’d like to do someday, if I can salvage the mood. A few accompanying stories with characters, nothing major. Just one shots. The thing is, with me, it always seems a good idea at the time, but when I get around to actually doing something, it’s fizzled out. Plus, the whole colour thing. Ken looks okay on my screen, but on my friend’s he looks Hawaiian. Skin colour has become a pain.

A little note I thought I should include… my recent deviations are all titled after the songs that inspired them. That is; Clamato Fever, Plug Electric, Overdrive Scramble, We’re the Robots…

I have a few other pieces lined up for Ivory Gadget, The Flood Plain, and Beneath the Ashes. They’re links to OC Remix so you can check them out, if you fancy it. For the S3&K pieces, click on media, then download them from there. I’m very fond of them at the moment. Oh, and here’s Clamato Fever, second one down. The others are from Mega Man 9 so I don’t have links for them! I’m going to start linking to the pieces that inspired me : )

Besides the inspired pieces, there’s a Werehog sketch, a Pyro and maybe Ganondorf. If I’m happy enough with it (he looks awfully youthful/not evil enough/too complacent).

Random notes; Sonic Unleashed is awesome if you give it a chance. I believe there hasn’t been a decent Sonic game for well over a decade, and like everyone else, I dismissed this as soon as I saw it. I recall first hearing about it, Gary says ‘there’s a new Sonic game! It looks awesome, 2D platforming etc… But at night you’re a werehog’. A were-what? So, unfazed, I just accepted that there was absolutely no hope for the blue bugger I grew up with.

I picked it up on sale and played the first 20 minutes. Oh dear, thinks I. Sonic hast appeared to caught lycanthropy. It can’t get worse than this, the true Sonic levels are over in a flash and werehog levels look dull, or so I have read. But after actually giving it a chance, I say: I love this game. The Sonic levels aren’t as short as people claim, and there’s plenty of replay value, the music is superb, reminiscent of Koji Kondo’s Mario Galaxy works, for a Sonic game it is unbelievably polished (I’ve only found one glitch so far), the graphics and environments are beautiful… The werehog levels remind me of older platofrming games I loved, like Crash Bandicoot games and stuff, really not as dull as people say. The werehog gameplay is really quite varied, you’re not constantly bashing things. The Sonic levels, when you aren’t whizzing around, feature jumps from 2D PLATFORMS. LIKE OLD SONIC GAMES, YOU HAVE TO STOP AND WAIT. I nearly shed a tear. I know the werehog is far from his roots, but it’s a bloody great step towards redemption. I can’t wait for the Mega Drive Collection.

So yeah. A bit of a lengthy update, and ventage to boot, but there you go. If I do get a laptop I’ll be on more often, and with more art. If not, then I’m still checking back from time to time! Oh eh. I’m a bit embarrassed to post the rant, but why the hell not. Perhaps I’ll update later with more positive news ; )

Ignorance?

Sun Aug 31, 2008, 9:27 AM
Hm, so getting on DA lately is becoming somewhat of a chore. I just wanted to let people know that I won’t be on too much anymore, just to upload the odd thing or two, and visit a few pages. No offence to anyone, and I certainly don’t want to appear ignorant, it’s just that I don’t seem to get the time.

Just thought I’d let you know, so that you’ll excuse my inactivity!

In other news, this summer’s been pretty decent. I’ve played and discovered a lot of awesome new games, which goes hand in hand with the terrible weather we seem to have been plagued with. I can’t believe I hadn’t played Chrono Trigger until recently!

So yeah, keep up with the fantastic work! I’ll be watching from the sidelines : )
