Yeah. Distress and Brawl.

As you’ve probably already noticed, I’m taking a bit of a leave from DA for a while. I should’ve got on sooner to let people know this, so I apologize.

I’ve finished my first year at university, so you’d think that the art mood would just flood back but I’m having a really tough time getting back into the swing of things. I’m taking a whole new direction with my work, but not a good one. Stuff’s going to be simpler, a lot simpler. Which might not be good. When I upload stuff I would appreciate opinions, it’s hard trying to fit a style that’s me. One that I consistently draw and apply.

I’ve found myself being inspired by =Hail-NekoYasha and *Rooreelooo because they both have their own distinctive styles, but can still apply fan art to them. I’m trying to achieve a similar thing, recognizable characters but in a more… unique sense, I guess… And to create fan art which is direct fan art, if you get me. Trying to go back to my roots, which means skinny, ill looking fan art. Woo.

There are a lot of problems with the style I’m trying at the moment. I like the odd doodles but I don’t know if they’re anything more than doodles. I can’t draw noses, but I guess that could be a part of the style. Face shapes are also a problem, they’re all inverted teardrop shapes, it feels very same-y. I don’t know if it’s decipherable whether the pictures are failed fan art or a unique take. But I think I might relax a lot more on Deviant Art, submit everything and scrap accordingly. I never put a vast amount of effort into the work already uploaded anyway, and yet it takes more time than the work I’m doing now.

I’ve got some sketches at the moment, but to me they’re just doodles and it’s hard to accept that that might be my style? They just look like unfinished drawings… So I was thinking of just colouring them in and submitting them anyway. I worry too much about not capturing the character’s style and personality. Bah. Like I said, feedback is good.

So yeah, all this stressing over silly old art! It’s really straining and it shouldn’t be. Ah well. : D Brawl is awesome, I’ve rediscovered its awesomeness. That’s one hell of a soundtrack, and the detail. Oh God, the detail. It’s little things like Marth’s critical hit bar and the Sonic jump noise he makes, and WHAT when I noticed how Sonic duck and covers, just like the good ol’ Mega Drive days. Anywho, yeah. I laughed and was amazed in equal measure when I saw the Pokemon Trainer’s ‘It’s Super Effective!’ final smash. I had to pause the game and absorb it. Brawl does this to a person. It’s the only game where I can rock out to Live & Learn on Green Hill Zone then do Snake Eater karaoke on Shadow Moses Island. It’s so lonely. : D

I love how the levels are always changing too, so much variety. Spear Pillar is my favourite I think though, Palkia and Dialga just make it made of awesome. I think my other faves are Norfair, Aero Port or whatever that F-Zero one is called… Warioware is awesome to play online. OH And Castle Siege, I have to say that that is one beautiful looking level. Ohohoh. Ah crap, I’m excited now. I need to go play it…

So yeah. Thanks to anyone who read the panic at the top. Here's to the future!

  • Mood: Nervous
  • Playing: The Legendary Air Ride Machine
  • Drinking: Kiwi Tea.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll redevelop your own art style in due time. As for Brawl, I love that damn game. And after so long, I finally beat Boss Battles on Intense difficulty.

Really?! I find it comes down to look with Meta Ridley, I can be doing really well and he'll just knock me off... Kind of annoying.

John Freeman, over here! ;__;
Yeah! Thanks for that, that's enoucraging. I didn't know whether the simpler stuff sounded okay or not, so cheers : D

And yeah! You can pick the box up. Which is just excellent.

Yeah, you're right! There's been a lot happening lately so my mind's been all over the place. Found it kind of hard to just relax and clear my mind to draw. But with the holidays now it should stop soon! : D Thanks for the words.

I used fox. He has a decent air doge, a quick ground dodge, and his side B move is really good for escaping fast attacks, like Porker's laser move. And his deflector makes Meta Ridley a joke.
